About Us
The Feminist Inclusion Leadership Center (FIL Center) is a self-led, trans feminist, and youth sex-worker-driven organization in Uganda. Founded and operated by young transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse sex workers, we organize collectively to build a just society where our communities are treated with absolute dignity, labor recognition, and equality.
Guided by radical Feminist principles, FIL Center is an active collective of grassroots organizers mobilizing to dismantle systemic criminalization, state violence, and economic exclusion. Through peer-led programs and direct action, we advance our collective human rights, bodily autonomy, and self-determination.

PROGRAMS

Every human being deserves to live with dignity, peace, and a sense of belonging. Today, we kindly invite you to open your heart to the experiences of transgender persons in Uganda.
We run a peer-to-peer navigation network that connects trans and youth sex workers to secure, competent, and stigma-free sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, HIV care, and gender-affirming support. Recognizing the extreme violence our members face in public healthcare settings due to the criminalization of both trans identity and sex work, our network maps and utilizes trusted, queer-competent providers. We mobilize our community through peer-led education on bodily autonomy, harm reduction, and self-care.
Our Community work includes facilitating referrals for HIV testing and treatment, access safer Sexual Reproductive Health Care services, and Advancing access of Safer Gender-Affirming Care such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and Medical Check ups. We prioritize linking individuals with Queer-competent healthcare providers who understand and respect diverse identities.
Through education and awareness initiatives, we empower transgender individuals and LBQ women to make informed decisions about their health, rights, and overall well-being.
The program Designed by and for Trans Youth and Gender Diverse sex workers facing severe economic exclusion and workplace discrimination, this program strengthens financial independence and collective security. We organize peer-run technical training workshops (including IT programming, digital literacy, and cosmetology) and short-term language classes. This program serves as a mutual-aid space where members build economic safety nets to resist exploitative conditions.
Our advocacy is entirely driven by the lived experiences of young trans and gender diverse sex workers. We document human rights violations, arbitrary arrests, and extortion by law enforcement. At the grassroots level, we build community resilience and legal literacy among our peers. At the structural level, we engage in strategic dialogue with human rights platforms and leverage digital media to challenge anti-sex work narratives, demand policy reform, and assert that sex work is work.
We operate a rapid-response mutual aid fund to support trans and gender-diverse youth (aged 18 to 35) facing acute crises, including state violence, arbitrary detention, or family disownment. Our fund provides immediate transit support for safety, emergency legal aid, and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) continuity. To combat the severe housing discrimination faced by trans sex workers, we provide emergency short-term safe housing for up to three months to ensure safety and relocation following evictions or police raids.
To counter the profound psychological trauma of systemic stigma and criminalization, we organize peer-led community healing spaces. We host structured peer support circles, focused group healing sessions, and community-building recreational activities like yoga and sports. We facilitate direct referrals to trusted, trauma-informed mental health professionals while maintaining strict peer-led follow-up care.
We conduct political education, mentorship, and leadership clinics explicitly for Young trans and gender-diverse individuals. This program builds the capacity of the next generation of Human rights defenders, Leaders and Feminist equipping them with the tools to safely navigate hostile legal environments, manage grassroots collectives, and lead self-determined social movements.
